How Mean Am I?

After my experience at the mall last week, with Chayse running rampant in and out of stores, attempting to kiss all the stuffed animals and telling them he loved them...my sister reminded me of these cute little things that we will just call a backpack! So yesterday I made the purchase and am very excited to try it out on our next attempted outing to the mall...ALONE! dun dun dun...

K so maybe someone may call this a leash, or a harness..but we prefer to call it the monkey backpack and Chayse loves his monkey. Some may say its mean, I say it preserves my sanity!

A Blog of Pictures

Just a few cute pictures...
Just hanging out with my little ones last night!
Just before her 2 wk Doc Appt.

Her eye is swollen because she had a clogged tear duct.

Uh oh..you caught her without a headband!

Chayse eating some cake at Peyton's Party!

I seriously thought he was going to pass out from blowing this thing so much!

Kimber and Jonas in Utah!

We were so lucky to have my sister, Kimber and our little nephew, Jonas come stay with us for a few days this week. Kimber was such a big help with Chayse, and she helped me through my first outing with two kids! :) We dont have a double stroller, so Chayse was running wild at the mall..but he was having fun! I just was stressing a little bit! :) Definitely something I am going to have to get used to doing on my own though! It was so great to have my sister here to have our late night chats, her advice with a new baby, and the interaction shared between Chayse and Jonas. They got along pretty well, and Chayse got used to sharing his toys..well kind of haha. I miss them already and cant wait to get back to Boise to see them here in a few weeks! I wish I had taken more pics..but we were a little busy with 3 kids under 3! :)

My dad brought Kimber and Jonas to Logan, and it was so great to get a picture with him and all 3 of his grandkids together! Love you Dad!

Chayse and Jonas had lots of fun riding on this car together! :)

The Many Styles of Nicole

Typical Nicole: Everytime there is a major change in my life..something major needs to be done to my hair. Maybe its my subconscious way of dealing with change. So Im trying to decide what I want to do with it. Right now its a couple inches past my shoulders and just brown.
Should I....

chop it and put blonde highlights in it?

chop it and dye it dark dark brown?

chop it and do a lighter brown?

leave it longer and dye it darkish maroonish?

HELP!

Poor Pig

When I am sitting there, starting to nurse..and wanting to punch the wall or scream in pain as Alexa latches on...I remind myself..at least I'm not her...

That's all.

Finally..Alexa's Birth Story!

Well I feel like I can finally sit down and put together all the thoughts, happenings and events of
Alexa's birth!
On Thursday, Feb 7..I had my doctor's appt at 3:45. They were running really behind because my doctor was in a delivery. So they gave us some coupons for the inconvenience and we headed off to the cafeteria for a little snack. I was a little hungry, but just decided to wait til we got home because nothing really looked good. (Though I wish had eaten something!). So we got back to the office and waited a few minutes, then went in. My blood pressure was 156/88 I believe and I had gained 4 pounds in a week..which for me was crazy just becuase the last few appts I hadn't gained anything. So we got into the little room, and waited to hear what the doc had to say. She came in and checked my cervix..and it was a good 4 cm. With the fact that she was going to be out of town for 5 days, my blood pressure was high and I was over 38 wks..she said, " Ok..lets induce you!" I figured I had the night, and would come back in the morning, or at least I could go home and relax for a bit til they were ready for me. Oh no, she said to head straight on up!
As long as I was waiting to hear these words, as soon as I heard them, I was in shock. My baby is coming today? I have to go right now? All these thoughts were running through my head. We had Chayse with us, and so we called his mom to come get him. We headed up to the Labor and Delivery floor, and I think Chayse could tell something was up. He was ALL over the place..hyper as can be! I had to give a urine sample, and so I put it up on the counter. Well Chayse was thirsty and decided he needed a drink. I guess I didn't put it back on the counter far enough..because Brandon barely caught him in time before he took a swig of what he thought was apple juice! :) Good thing Brandon was so quick! :)

We settled in after Chayse left and awaited the upcoming pain! I guess my veins aren't "good veins" and they ended up having to do an IV on the top of my hand..and I didn't like it too much because it just was a constant ache. What a baby I was being..compared to the pain I was going to experience in a few hours. Anyway, at about 6:00 pm they started the pitocin, and I was holding strong and managing the pain really well. We just hung out, watched TV and talked. The doctor came in and broke my water around 8:45, and let me tell you, I just hate that feeling! After she broke my water, I think I was at a 6 and the pain started to get really intense, really fast! I tried to hold out, but broke down and needed an epidural around 9:15 or so. I was worried because my past experiences with an epidural weren't good ones..meaning they didnt work when they needed to. This anesthesiologist was really great and put in an awesome epidural. He did something different where he gave me fentynol (sp?) first..which was a quick pain fix, and then followed up with the epidural. I loved it because he was able to get me out of pain and able to relax a little bit while he finished the rest of the epidural. Let me tell you, I was feeling FABULOUS! Life was great and for a teensy second..I could see why people got addicted to pain meds. At 10:15 they checked me and I was at a 7..still resting easy and lovin life! Even though I was dialating just fine, she wasn't dropping at all. The nurse said that babies are so very smart and sometimes they know not to drop til the last minute; like if the cord was around the neck, they would wait so it wouldn't stress them out to the point of putting them in danger. It was great to be able to relax and rest up before the main event.

So, 10:45 rolls around and the nurse decides its time to empty my bladder. She does so, and I start to feel intense pain on my right side. Oh great..here we go again! A repeat of the non working epidural! I started freaking out..but the nurse said the epidural works a lot on gravity so that I needed to lay on my right side and she would give me an extra pump of the epidural to help. I did so, and started to feel better, but at the same time started to feel a ton of pressure! I guess emptying my bladder was all Alexa needed to get her going! She checked me and I was at a 10 and fully efaced and +1 station! She said," Ok..we are going to have a baby!" Brandon was totally caught off guard and started saying, " ok..ok..alright." haha! We both figured my labor would be longer than it was, but hoping it wasn't as long as my labor with Chayse.

The doctor came in, and they hurried to get everything ready, while we worked out the recording/camera duties! Brandon was very worried about not getting to cut the cord and he really didn't want to miss seeing the placenta..(guys are so interesting)..so one of the techs offered to come up by my shoulder and videotape and Brandon agreed to take pictures with the camera..cuz you know..I would be busy pushing out a baby and all. I was totally numb when they were setting up and that worried me because I couldn't feel when I needed to push, but when the time came to do it a couple minutes later..I could feel a small amount of pressure.

I pushed a few times through one contraction, got cheers and great coaching from my husband..and out she came! The cord was wrapped once around her neck, so the nurse was right. Alexa held out til last minute before coming down! Anyway, I pushed for less than a minute! It was so amazing to hear that little cry come from my daughter! I was so in love, the minute I heard that cry and when they placed her up on my stomach! Brandon was able to cut the cord and did great, shaky hands and all!

Alexa was born at 11:11 pm..and I think that is a fun and special time! Everything checked out great with her and I was able to have her right back! What a great feeling that was! NO NICU! :) I was able to start nursing her right away, and loved that instant bond and connection!

So that was her birth story, and now I have to share a little story that gets me teary eyed even thinking about it now. A lot of the times when Chayse was going to bed, I would sing to him. Mostly just randomly naming off his favorite characters from movies and Playhouse disney..he would request it all the time. Then he got into Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and I remember one night I probably sang it 50 times easily, til he fell asleep. Well, when we were in our hospital room, Alexa started crying and I just put her up to my face and kissed her cheek and started singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and right away she stopped crying and her and I just snuggled. What a great feeling to know that she was listening while she was in my stomach..taking part in our bedtime song.

All in all, Alexa is doing great! Her jaundice is going away and she only had to be on the lights for a couple days. She is nursing fabulously now, and sleeping so great! I truely feel so blessed to have had such a great birth experience with her and that she is so healthy. I love this little girl so much and we are so happy she is here! Chayse is adjusting better and better every day. He loves his little sister and wants to be apart of everything having to do with her. He told us he would save her at the doctor if she had to get any shots. He hates to see her cry, and would hold her 24-7 if he could..
We thought this was our last one..but with such a great birth experience..you never know..there could be another lil Leavitt waiting for us to bring their sweet spirit to this earth!

She is Tu-Tu Cute!

Happy 2nd Birthday Peyton!

Tegan's little girl, Peyton turns 2 today! She is absolutely darling and I can't believe how fast time flies! It seems like yesterday I came to Logan to see her for the first time! She just gets cuter and cuter everyday! Chayse adores her and wishes he could see her more often! We hope you have a fabulous day Peyton! We love you!

Weighing In...

This morning I weighed myself and I have lost 20 pounds since giving birth to Alexa! I weighed myself the day I came home from the hospital and I had lost 10 pounds. So with the help of nursing, I have lost 10 pounds on my own and that gives me a great jump start to get the rest off. I am 3 lbs away from pre-pregnancy weight..but I still have more after that, that I would like to lose! Im gun-ho and ready to go hit the gym as soon as my body will allow it! I think I will start walking on the treadmill this week and slowly ease into it. Im excited I have the rest of the winter to get in the shape I want to be in for spring/summer! Wish me luck!

Happy Late Valentines Day Everyone!

Hope it was a great one for everyone! We hadn't really planned anything for Valentine's Day because I was supposed to be induced today, then with coming home and getting adjusted..who has time to shop!? :) But we made the best of the day! We had a yummy dinner at Cafe Rio and did a little shopping. Chayse hung out with his Uncle Travis, and Alexa was stuck coming out with us! :) It was great because she just slept the entire time! I forgot what it was like to have a quiet dinner when a child is with us! :) Also, I just wanted to say how much I love and appreciate my husband! Especially this last 9 months! It wasn't an easy pregnancy and he was there to comfort me and be there for me when I just needed to bawl! He has totally taken over parenting Chayse this last week, while I healed and tried to figure out the nursing thing. He has done a great job, and though I have been an emotional wreck..he has kept his cool and taken care of things! I love you honey!

Gettin a little baby tan!

Yesterday at Alexa's "after hospital check-up" at her pediatrician's office, we found out that her bili ruben levels had gone up a lot higher than they would have liked, from when they tested her the day she went home. So, that meant someone had to come over and set her up on bili lights. I ofcourse started bawling because that meant someone was telling me I couldn't hold my baby girl except for eating and diaper change. She has to be on them 24-7. I was so so sad, but I knew it was the best thing for her. She started on them around 6:00 and didn't like it at first..but then got used to it. Up until later last night and the early morning feedings, we would have to wake her up to feed her, and she was just sleeping constantly. Her poopy diapers had also come to a halt yesterday, until the last 3 or 4. She is starting to wake up on her own to eat but is still sleeping in good 3.5 hr chunks! Because she is more awake, alert, and having more dirty diapers, we are hoping that her levels have gone down. We took her in this morning to have it checked again, and we should know the results later today. If they have gone down, she will only have to be on for two more days, but if they have drastically gone down..only 8 more hours..which I am ofcourse rooting for! :) Cross your fingers for her!

On another note..I just wanted to say that breastfeeding is really hard! We tried with Chayse and because he was preemie it was really hard for him to get the hang of it, and it was stressing me out..so we bottle fed with formula. This time I am determined to breastfeed! (though we have had to supplement a few bottles of formula to help her bili ruben levels decrease.) anyway..if anyone has any advice on how it may be made easier, please fill me in! I feel like Im constantly engorged and pumping doesnt relieve it all; it only gets a little bit. All of you who have done it..please help!!!

Other than that..things are great! Im recovering well, not as sleep deprived as I thought I would be..and slowly adjusting to figuring out how to care and love for two little ones!

She has lots of medium brown hair and the cutest little cheeks ever! I will post a more detailed blog about the wonderful labor experience and more pictures..once I can sit at the computer for longer than 3 min without being in pain! (No Jenn, didn't do it epidural free..but I held out for quite some time and am proud I made it as far as I did!:) )

This is what happened....

when I left my 2 yr old alone in the family room for 5 minutes this morning!

He wasn't smiling for very long after this picture! I decided to wait to punish him til after I got off the phone with my sister-in-law and took pictures of course haha. I am proud of myself, I didn't get TOO mad. I just spanked his hand, said it was naughty and made him help me clean it up. Though I don't think I really got through to him. All I can say is I am going to scour through the house making sure every marker is for sure out of his reach. (He seemed to have gone through a growth spurt this last week or so...because all of the sudden he can reach things he couldn't before.) Luckily this time it was just a felt tip marker...as opposed to a Sharpie! Thankfully it all came off and things were cleaned up by the time Brandon came home for lunch! :)

This Face will Make Anyone's Day!

When my sister sent me this picture this morning, I literally busted up laughing! How can you look at this darling little boy, and not just melt! I miss my little nephew so so so so much and am so excited for him and Kimber to come visit on the 19th, after Alexa is born! I haven't seen him since the end of September and it kills me to miss so much of his developmental stages! After I am not pregnant anymore, I am sure we will start traveling back to Boise more often, like we used to. I am excited to start seeing Jonas more and ofcourse Kimber and my brother in law, Adam! They are an awesome little family! :) Love you guys!

Im HUGE....

Need I say more?
(37 wks 2 days)

Chayse's 1st Snowman!

We woke up to a very snowy Sunday morning! We were sad because it prevented my Dad from coming to have a Superbowl party with us, but of course we would rather him be safe than travel in this weather! So, Chayse and Brandon decided to go make a snowman and it turned out really cute! Chayse had a blast..and I'm pretty sure Brandon did too..though he didnt have any gloves!
